Why Are My Property Search Filters Showing No Results? 8 Fixes

By FlipProperties Editorial TeamPublished October 22, 2026Updated October 22, 2026PropStream figures checked October 2026

Zero results usually doesn't mean there are no deals. It means the search is too narrow, two filters contradict each other, or your county doesn't report the field you're filtering on. These 8 fixes work on most property data platforms, with PropStream examples where they help.

The fastest way to find the filter causing zero results

8 reasons your search shows no results, and how to fix them

  1. 01

    Too many filters.

Every filter narrows the results. Stack five or six and you can filter a whole county down to zero. Remove filters one at a time until results come back, then add them back in order of importance.

  2. 02

    Filters that contradict each other.

Some combinations can't both be true, like a free-and-clear search with a minimum mortgage balance, or a vacant filter with owner-occupied. Check that each filter fits the others.

  3. 03

The search area is too small.

One ZIP code or a tight map shape may simply have no matches. Widen to nearby ZIP codes or the whole county, then narrow again.

  4. 04

Your county doesn't report that field.

Not every county records every data point. In non-disclosure states, for example, sale prices often aren't public, so price-based filters can come back empty or estimated.

  5. 05

You're looking for a list that doesn't exist.

Some lead types aren't built-in lists. PropStream's defined lead lists don't include FSBO or code violations, and absentee and corporate owners are found with filters, like occupancy (not owner-occupied) and owner type, not lists.

  6. 06

    A range is set wrong.

Check that minimums and maximums aren't swapped, and that you're using the right unit. PropStream's High Equity list, for example, means 50% or more equity or $100,000 or more, so a filter set only in dollars or only in percent may behave differently.

  7. 07

A date window is too short.

A 30-day window in a slow market can return nothing. Widen it. For comps, PropStream's tool defaults to the last year within 0.5 mile, which is a good starting point.

  8. 08

A status filter is excluding what you want.

On-market and off-market filters change everything. If you're hunting off-market deals, make sure you haven't also excluded the lead types you need.

When zero is the right answer

Sometimes the filters are right and the market is just thin. If a reasonable search in a wider area still returns nothing, that's useful information: adjust your criteria or try a different market rather than forcing the data.

When results look wrong, not empty

If results come back but don't match your filters, check a few records against the county's own data. Estimates and flags can lag behind recorded facts.

Filter troubleshooting: questions

Usually because the search is too narrow, two filters conflict, or your county doesn't report the field you're filtering on. Remove filters one at a time to find the cause.

PropStream doesn't have an FSBO list. You can find FSBO leads yourself and import them into PropStream.

In PropStream, absentee owners are found with a filter, not a list. Use the occupancy filter to search for properties that are not owner-occupied.

In non-disclosure states, sale prices often aren't part of the public record, so platforms may show estimates or leave the field empty.

Estimates and flags can lag behind recorded facts. Spot-check a few records against county records before you rely on the list.
